Hotels on Clematis Street

As far as I can see, there are no hotels on Clematis Street. This is one of the pending needs of this entertainment district in downtown West Palm Beach, and plans are in the works for more hotels in the area. For instance, the owner of the Comeau office building on the 300 block of Clematis Street had intended to convert it into a hotel, but with the building currently in foreclosure, it's not clear when if ever that will now occur.

In the meantime, there are some hotels in the area but the selection is amazingly small. If you want to be within a block or two of Clematis Street, you'd have to stay at the Hibiscus Bed & Breakfast or the Evernia hotel. These are located along Rosemary Avenue just 1 1/2 blocks south of the 600 block of Clematis Street, on the way toward City Place. Although the Hibiscus Bed & Breakfast is an incredibly quaint and attractive place, both it and the Evernia Hotel are extrememly small, with only a handful of rooms between them.

For a larger hotel, the only real mainstay in downtown West Palm Beach is a Marriott Hotel, located on Okeechobee Blvd., across from the Convention Center, and two long blocks west of City Place. This is a nice hotel but it's quite a walk from Clematis Street. Recently, a new reasonably-sized hotel opened up (Hyatt Place) at the corner of Okeechobee and Olive, and this hotel is actually the closest full-size hotel now to Clematis Street (about a six block walk down Olive or Dixie north to Clematis).

Historically, there used to be a number of grand hotels along Flagler Drive on the intracoastal waterway, all very close to Clematis Street, but none of them remain. At this point, it appears that downtown West Palm Beach has a pressing need for more hotels, and the new Hyatt Place is certainly welcome. Unfortunately, due to the current economy, it's not likely that a new hotel project will be completed in the coming year.

One nice thing about downtown West Palm Beach, though, is that it is located within a 5 minute drive of Palm Beach International airport. There are plenty of large hotels located all around the airport. So you can stay at any of those hotels, and you will still be within a few minutes of downtown and Clematis Street.
